All i did was stand up and boom, pain. I didn't feel or hear a pop or crunch. I was sitting and stood up, but i always bend my feet, so i sort of stand up on the front of it.

      Certainly don’t need to insist on surgery, especially if it’s not displaced. Do, however, get it checked by a podiatrist or foot and ankle orthopedist. Emergency department sometimes aren’t the best source of these decisions. Hope you heal quickly!

    I use a pumice stone as you suggested after every shower I also soak my feet in warm distilled white vinegar this pulls out any infection and it also softens the toenails so when I go to my podiatrist and Eclipse my toenails they are soft the warm distilled white vinegar also allows my toenails to be flexible so I can pull out the ingrown part by twisting with needle nose pliers I also recommend using t r i a m c i n o l o n e a c e t o n i d e cream 0.025% after the stone and the foot soak this relieves pain and makes the skin soft

    I've got a sort of pad of tissue that's come on over this last year on top of my foot at the base of 2nd/3rd toes. Is that a neuroma? It's not at all painful. I've started using toe stretchers to see if it's just a build up of tissue around there. Will that work?

    • @DrAndrewSchneider
      @DrAndrewSchneider 3 дня назад

      It’s not a neuroma. A neuroma is internal. This sounds like something external. Toe stretchers may help. Try using hydrocortisone cream on it and see if it helps. If not, visit a podiatrist.

    • @Ladynipchick2
      @Ladynipchick2 3 дня назад

      @@DrAndrewSchneider How very kind of you to reply so quickly. I actually saw a podiatrist several years ago for it, so have had it longer than I originally told you. Steroid injections were given. However they didn't do much. I'm doing toe stretchers regularly now, and will try a little steroid cream with that. Will 1% be sufficient? I did dancing on and off, constantly up on my toes (not Pointe) and still enjoy doing that, but sometimes wonder if it makes it worse!

    • @DrAndrewSchneider

    If uric acid crystalizes when temperatures are cooler why would you put an ice pack on it? Wouldn't it be better to soak it in warm water to break up the crystallization?

    • @DrAndrewSchneider
      @DrAndrewSchneider 3 дня назад

      That’s a great question! It’s the difference between an acute inflammation and chronic gout condition. Ice is used for the acute flare up. Soaking in warm water at that point won’t break up the crystals. It’ll dilate the blood vessels, increase the blood flow, which will increase the level of inflammation. When there’s no acute inflammatory gout flare, I don’t recommend using ice.

    Thanks. You are the clearest/most informative person I've seen to date re feet. Pleased to hear there is a "fake nail" solution to deal with unacceptable looks of a nail if it comes to it. I'm in my 70's - but I still want to find the appearance of my toenails is acceptable to me and have been feeling very concerned at knowing that (for the second time in my life) I've had to have a partial nail avulsion on one of my big toenails (I'm told it's curved - and that's why it's started hurting me again all these years after the first time I had it done. I live in a part of the country (ie West Wales, UK) which feels a lot like "back of beyond" and looks/health standard accepted here seem to be lower than where I'm from (city in southern England) - but my own standards have stayed the same as my normal. I had to be "rather firm" to ensure it was only the sides of that nail removed and not the whole nail - and make it plain I'm hoping I'll still have a cosmetically acceptable appearance and that is what I've just had done and it's recovering now. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's appearance will still be acceptable to me once it heals up - but at least I know there is another option out there and I can "argue" for it if need be.

    I thought I had eliminated almost everything in my diet that I thought would contribute to a gout attack. Then recently I got a bad gout attack, probably the worst one I've had in a long time. I could not figure out why this would've happened. The only thing I can think of is that I changed my pre-workout supplement to C4. This was just out of convenience because they had it at Costco. I've been wondering if this is what caused my gout flareup. I've been looking at the ingredients like creatine, B6 and B12, which were not in my previous pre-workout supplement this is the first I've heard about, these supplements contributing to a gout attack. I also take vitamin C every day 500's... it would be helpful to know if it is OK to take these in lower dosages or should we eliminate them from our diet altogether?

    • @DrAndrewSchneider

      Creatine can definitely trigger a gout flare. The secret is to hydrate like crazy when taking supplements. Also remember that gout is not only diet related. Your body might be producing too much uric acid regardless of what you’re eating.

I do not know how nurses handle that constantly.). Anyway, every response from any Dr (whether they have any connection to the event or history or not) helps me calm them down.
